Everything is Going to Be OK

It’s not good to be happy all the time. It’s not good to be sad or angry all the time either. Our lives are the healthiest when we have a balance of emotions. However, when you feel yourself tipping into unbalance, it might be time to take some action. You rarely hear people say they are just too happy, so more than likely the imbalance will be that anger, sadness, frustration, or a another lower vibration emotion has taken over the majority of your time. I myself fell victim to some imbalance lately. Even my own husband had to point out that I was being far more negative than my usual self. I’ll chalk it up to a combination of too much news, social media, and just the shock of this “new normal” that threw me off balance.

I decided to do a negativity detox this month. I have done a lot of research on the science of happiness. I’m posting one fact about happiness every day for 30 days on my Instagram and Facebook pages, which will ensure every day starts with a focus on happiness. Also, I’m purposely trying to only speak about happy things with friends instead of complaining or sharing negative things I’ve seen on the news. I went and got my hair done after 5 months and soaked up all the good vibes of getting to speak to my hairdresser who is a great friend, even if it was hard to hear each other through our masks! When I catch myself thinking limiting thoughts about the future, I stop and re-frame the statements to myself. So if I catch myself thinking “I miss my old job and traveling,” I stop and say, “I’m thankful for all this time to rest and learn new things, and I can’t wait to see what the universe is going to bring to me.” These actions have been tipping my balance back towards happiness. Connection, perspective, and taking action are the keys to tipping yourself back to balance.

One of the most powerful facts about happiness that I have shared recently is that 40% of your happiness is based on your own thinking and perspective. So even if the 10% of your happiness that is due to circumstances is in the dumps, you can still tip the scales towards happiness with your thinking. So never forget that the power to be happy is in your hands. You can choose to be happy right now. We all need to work on keeping our perspective positive while our circumstances are likely quite trying. Focusing on the now and doing little things to be happy today will help lead to more happiness in the future. There’s no need to give up hope and assume tomorrow will be another bad day. The small actions to increase your happiness right now will in turn attract more positive opportunities for tomorrow.

Here are a few more things that have been proven to increase your happiness:

Making others happy (help someone, donate to charity, give a compliment)

Smelling flowers

Bright colors

Being outside or even just looking outside or at pictures of nature

10 or more minutes of exercise

Staying hydrated

Eating fruits and vegetables

Phone calls an video calls to people you know

Pets

Meditation

Cooking and baking

Vanilla scents

Funny movies and videos

Sleeping at least 6.8hrs a night

Doing something creative every day

2 or more minutes of yoga

Singing

Nostalgia (looking at old photos)

Spending less time on social media

Practicing gratitude

Learning new things

So if you’re feeling a little or a lot out of balance, pick one of a few of the above things to help boost your happiness right now. What you do today will affect your tomorrows! Let me know what you are doing to increase your happiness. And if you ever need someone to coach you towards more happiness in your life, I’m always here for you! Stay safe and happy!
