“Sure I’ll workout on a live show with thousands of people watching.” I did just that this week as I was a guest on the DB365 fitness show on the Daily Burn website and app. I’ve been a die hard fan of the workouts for over two years, and I have done over 750 of their workouts! It truly changed my life, and I finally got to NYC and had time to visit the studio.
I can only imagine that most people would be terrified of this exact situation, but it was one that I had been training and looking forward to for the last two years. But in all honesty, I was also pretty terrified! I’ve been interviewed for the news a few times in my life. I remember both of those times thinking I sounded awful and jumbling my words because I was so nervous. In high school I was up for the lead in a play and bombed my audition because I just froze with fear. So a little voice inside me thought I might just do that again, but I wasn’t willing to miss out on something I so dearly wanted to experience.
I knew I had the athletic ability, but the workout still kicked my butt. I knew I had the passion to share my story and my light, and it absolutely came shining through. People who watched the workout were amazed that I smiled the entire time, but that’s because I was living my purpose and looking fear right in the face, and every minute was exhilarating. By having the courage to just jump in there and take a chance, I gave myself the chance to fly. The feedback after the show was amazing, and I was inspired to know that my story had touched the lives of others. I now have the confidence to go forward and do more videos/interviews/speeches/vlogs. The confidence I gained by once again facing a fear and overcoming it, is immeasurable. Someone call Oprah, I’m ready for my interview. (OK, maybe not ready, but I’d absolutely jump in that direction!)
It’s becoming more and more clear to me that to grow quickly, you often have to do things that scare you. It’s never easy, but the more you do it, the more you learn that you are more likely going to fly than fall.
Look back at the fears you have faced. There was a time when you were afraid of the first day of school, a time when you were afraid to go down a slide, afraid to give that speech in class, and later you were afraid to talk to that cute person at a party, afraid to apply for that dream job, afraid to spend that money on a vacation. What fears are you facing now? Afraid to leave that job that provides money but no meaning, fear looking for a new relationship after a divorce, fear raising a child in a world that often seems depressing, or maybe you are just afraid to find out how powerful you really are?
I challenge you to jump this week. If you can’t jump, maybe just take a tiny step in the right direction. Start believing in you unlimited potential. Kick off those training wheels and go for the ride of your life, and soon you will be flying down that road in the direction of your dreams. And if you fall a few times, that’s OK. Each time you learn a new lesson and get better and better, and those scrapes heal over time. You don’t regret the bruises you might get along the way, but you will regret never going anywhere.
