Live Like a Child

I’m not suggesting you become dependent on others again or limit your thinking, but living with the free spirit of child-like abandon can do us some good! Finding the wonder in small things around you will lift your spirit.

It’s easy to get drawn up into the day-to-day grind and forget to stop and enjoy the wonder around us. When’s the last time you stopped to look at the shapes of the clouds? Or admire the perfect blend of colors in a sunset? How incredible is it that we can sit in a massive plane and somehow it can lift us up into the sky and carry us where we need to go quickly? The wonder in the world around us is downright magical when you take time to appreciate it.

Being child-like can be seen as an insult to many adults who focus so much of their energy on being taken seriously. But even the busiest businessperson can find time to be delighted by the world if they want to enjoy it. The most creative people are those who embrace their inner child. They let their imagination run wild and come up with new ideas to improve and expand our world. They don’t believe in the word “no” and keep going until they find away. They fall down and get back up. They don’t see failure as an end, rather it’s just a sign to try a different course.

If another child won’t play with a child on the playground, they move on and find someone else to play with. They live with the belief that something fun is likely to happen, or they find a way to make a situation more fun. It’s hard to let down our hardened adult emotional walls. But what if we tried to be just a little more open to new situations and new people and brought more fun into our lives?

Even though we’ve all grown up, it doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy the wonder of the world. That student loan payment will still be there while you watch the squirrels chasing each other around the trees, but maybe the joy of taking a few seconds to enjoy the world around you will make you a little less likely to worry about it constantly.
