Time to Stretch

Stretching is an essential part of a consistent workout routine. Warming up the muscles before you stress them with weight and movement helps prevent injury. Stretching after a workout helps the muscles recover and gain flexibility while warm and full of blood. Could stretching also become in integral part of our mental and emotional routine as well?

When we learn to stretch our mind by reading about diverse ideas then we increase our ability to understand others. When we stretch to learn about many cultures and backgrounds and lifestyles beyond our own, we become more flexible when we meet and interact with others. A limited mind makes someone more likely to be hurt by others.

Stretching to do things outside of our comfort zone lets the universe know we trust it. And when you learn to trust the universe, you are more likely to live in a “flow” state where life seems to unfold in positive ways without any effort. For example, if you had a business idea and just happen to meet someone working in the same industry that can answer the questions you had about it, that would be living in the flow. By stretching ourselves to follow our passion and always make positive choices, even when it might be harder to do or take longer, we set ourselves up for future success. The challenge of stretching might be uncomfortable while we are in that process, but afterwards you will feel so good when you see the benefits.

If you ask someone how they felt the first time they tried yoga, they would probably say awkward, uncoordinated, or frustrated. However, if you asked them how they felt during the final pose of savasana, where you lie still and rest, they would likely tell you the felt relaxed, relieved, and at peace. The discomfort of stretching leads to flexibility and ease in the future.

Could you challenge yourself to stretch a little further in your mental and spiritual life? Can you open up to new ideas or challenge yourself to take action towards a new goal today? If you’re looking to live in the ease of flow and feel the bliss of mental flexibility, reach out and find out how life coaching can help.
