I remember talking to my husband a few months ago and saying, “everything is in balance right now; life feels so good.” As soon as I said it, I had the thought of “Oh no, is this too good to be true? How long can this last?” I’ve often had a belief that there is always at least one part of my life that is a bit out of balance at any one time. You get your health in order, then something in your career goes out of whack. You’re mentally really focused and then your relationships get wacky. Is having every aspect of your life in balance a dream that is too good to be true?
For me, maybe it was a self-fulfilling belief that I held, but sure enough, not long after I had that thought, my career flew right out of balance. I didn’t lose my job or anything crazy like that, but my work load expanded rapidly with an expansion to our program. While it did come with the benefit of a raise, it did not exactly offset the hours of overtime, mental exhaustion, and constant feeling of low level anxiety that took over my previous free time. It threw off my balance, and the time I used to spend listening to uplifting podcasts and writing my blog was now filled with worry and focus on work. I had been filled with a drive to write a book and start a business, and for the last two months I’ve given all my focus and energy over to something that doesn’t connect me or move me forward. So here I am, deciding now that I have to get back to balance. I’m taking this work holiday to force myself to re-prioritize my life and get back to my love of connecting to others through this blog. I’ve had such a fear of taking time for myself that I just kept putting it off and off and thinking that I wouldn’t be able to find the positive focus to write something actually helpful for others. The struggle was real ya’ll!
Sometimes finding balance takes work. It’s not always going to just happen. Imagine that life is like walking on a tightrope. You are going to ebb and sway back and forth as life comes at you like a burst of wind with surprises that you didn’t expect. It’s going to take your focus to stay on that wire and not just completely fall off. Finding your center, connecting to what is most important to you, is what will keep you moving forward. You are going to stumble, you are going to fall, and maybe you are literally just barely hanging on to that wire at this point in your life, but at any point you have the power to decide to gain that control back. Connecting by teaching and inspiring others to live their best life is my center. So today, I’m back. I’m taking control of my life again and making the things that I care about most my priority. I love you. I’m sorry that I strayed away for a bit, but that just means I’m human.
You’re human too, and if you are swaying on that wire right now, take some time right now to think about what will get you back in balance. Is it connecting with your family that will make you feel balanced again? Maybe it’s focusing on your health and eating and moving and meditating with love that will help you regain your balance. Could it be that eliminating some negative forces or thoughts is what needs to be done to clear your path? Take a tiny step in the right direction and get a little closer to a life that is too good to be true. The world around us is always going to whirl and twirl, but we have that internal compass to keep us moving in the right direction if we follow it.
Maybe having perfect balance is too good to be true, but knowing that you can have enough balance to keep moving forward is the key. What action are you going to take today to move closer to your center?
