Trick and Treat Yourself

Fake it ’til you make it. The commonly used phrase is based on the law of attraction. There are countless studies that show that thoughts actually create change. Ask any successful athlete if they picture winning over and over in their minds. There are even studies that show that people who simply imagined themselves working out in detail, picturing the moves and reps, actually ended up with increased muscle strength.

Mind over matter- another saying that is based on the law of attraction and shows that the mind can have an influence over our matter, our physical self. Our thoughts are actually creating our reality. Considering how many tens of thousands of thoughts go through our minds each day, how can we even begin to control them? Many of our thoughts pop up so quickly that they almost seem to be unconscious thoughts. Many of them are based on previous thoughts that just continue to echo over and over. Think about how easy it is to fixate on something started by one brief little thought. It’s similar to how social media ads work- you stop to look at one pair of bluescreen glasses, and now your feed is full of brands selling blue light blocking glasses! (Yes, this is a real-life example from my life right now!)

Where your attention goes, the energy flows. So if we know this, we can start triggering a flow of positive thoughts by focusing on more positive ideas! This is also how using mantras work as well! If you wake up and think, “today is going to be a great day,” then your mind will start looking for signs that today is a great day. You might notice how pretty the sunrise is, then you seem to hit every green light on your drive to work, and then someone just happens to bring your favorite brand of muffins into work that day. However, if you woke up with the thought- “ugh, another weekday, and I don’t want to get out of bed,” then your mind starts to confirm why you are choosing to be unhappy. Suddenly the sunrise is just the annoying glare of the sun in your eyes as you drive, and the car in front of you is driving too slow for your liking, and the muffins at work are just going to make you gain weight so you are angry someone brought them. See how one little thought upon waking can shape your thoughts throughout the entire day?

So how do you counteract the negative thoughts that may seem to just pop up without even thinking about them? You start to become aware of what you are saying to yourself. So as you notice that thought of, “ugh, another weekday,” you can stop right there and say to yourself, “but, I’m going to have the best day that I can.” Making small changes will cause them to stick. Instantly trying to go from hating waking up to Ms. Suzie Sunshine Pants leaping out of bed to have an incredible day is just too much of a shift for most to make. So listen in today to the small thoughts that are setting up your future. As you learn to shift the small thoughts to more positive ones, you will shift your future and what you attract to yourself. As you shift to a higher vibration, you will also start to notice more possibilities because you are open to receiving them.

As you trick your mind into more positive thoughts, you will treat yourself to more possibilities! It’s the small shifts that create the greatest changes in our lives. Are there a few thoughts you can catch and shift today? Maybe put up a post-it with a positive mantra in your bathroom or on your computer screen to remind yourself to shift to positive thoughts today. Before you know it, as creatures of habit, those positive thoughts will become the automatic thoughts that just seem to pop up in your mind. Let me know if this works for you!
