You Are Awesome

Stop and appreciate how awesome you are today. Now your first thought when hearing that could be- no way, I’m not awesome. The human mind often shifts to focus on our lack instead of what we have to be grateful for. As you scroll through social media you might think- I wish I looked like this person; I wish I had that; how does that person always seem to attract good things? But how often do you stop to really appreciate all the things in your life that are truly awesome?

You are incredibly awesome, even if you don’t know it right now. From simply a biological level you are a fully functioning organism of trillions of cells all coordinating together to make sure you exist at this very moment. There are millions of simultaneous interactions going on inside of you at any one single moment of time, and you don’t even have to think about it. The fact that you can read these words means that you have mastered the English language, which is one of the hardest to learn.  You have learned how to navigate the internet to find this post- another thing you are awesome at! Do you ever stop to appreciate all the hundreds of thousands of things you now take for granted that you at one point had to learn? Think about how hard it was to go from a baby that could just lie there in a crib, to now being a fully functioning human that can feed yourself, move around in many ways, communicate, and just keep yourself alive.

This might all seem so simple and elementary and hardly worth appreciating, but anytime you sit and focus on your lack, you forget all the things that you take for granted that you could focus on. Striving to be better is fantastic, but it should inspire you and not depress you. Focusing on all that you have accomplished so far, will help you believe that you can achieve so much more. Any goal can be broken down into much smaller steps that make it realistic. You didn’t learn to walk and immediately go run a half marathon. Let yourself appreciate the fact that you have achieved so much in your life already, so you will have the confidence to know that you can always go out and do more.

You are awesome, and you can create the life you dream of if you start by appreciating all that you are now. Shift your focus on all the things that have gone right instead of what you believe is going wrong. Maybe you ate that donut at work this morning, but you took a long walk after dinner and found time to meditate today. Maybe your kids were acting out and driving you crazy, but you appreciate the simple fact that you have kept them alive to be here and driving you crazy (that is no simple feat as any parent can attest to). Life can be hard, and getting to where you want to be can take time. The more you focus on the positive, small steps you take every day to be better and do more, then the more your life will begin to shift and move more quickly in the direction you want it to go.

There’s nothing wrong with being proud of yourself. Love yourself just as you are. You are amazing, incredible, beautiful, and capable of doing anything with the right focus. Go out there and shine your light on the world today even if you feel like you are barely glowing. You have the ability to make every moment awesome.
